Crucial to a cleaning efficiency of an instrument washer is the adequate concentration and exposure to chemicals capable of breaking down (hydrolyzing) protein which are water insoluble, such as fibrin. Sometimes, however, the detergents do not get to the washer chamber or are not delivered at the proper volume. Unless you constantly watch the detergent pumps of the washer, you may not know of the failure. The DetergiCheck™ is a test which is reactive to the presence of proteolytic agents such as enzymatic and high alkaline detergents. This test is embedded with carbon black suspended in protein. In the presence of proteolytic agents, the protein will be hydrolyzed and the carbon black will wash out of the test. Simply compare the used test with the unused test to determine whether proteolytic agents were present. Compare the used test with a test which has been correlated to a successful TOSI™ test and you have method for monitoring the chemical efficiency of your washer between TOSI™ tests
