PROTECTING WHILE CLEANING – ISSUE NO. 332

One of the worst things that can happen while emptying the dishwasher is finding a broken dish or glass. One item that I will always hand wash is a wine glass. Often times these are much too delicate for the dishwasher. If there was a way to protect it during the washing process I would be more comfortable putting the glass in with the other dishes, but I find that it isn't worth the risk. Many surgical instruments are also sent through the automatic washer on a regular basis. Most of the time it can be routine, but every once in awhile there are delicate instruments that require a little more attention. One of the challenges now becomes not only making sure the instruments are clean, but also that they aren't damaged in the process.
