When instruments are closed, they are closed to cleaning. Water and detergent can not reach all the surfaces of the instrument – those that are most likely to harbor contaminates. AAMI, AORN, device manufacturers and others strongly recommend that instruments be kept in an open position when cleaned, to ensure maximum exposure to the cleaning solution.
Band Clamps are made of stainless steel with silicone covering. They ensure that the joints and jaws of of instruments, such as bone spreaders, remain open to ensure thorough cleaning.
