Did you know that one pint of blood can potentially save up to three lives? According to the Red Cross, every two seconds someone in the U.S. is in need of blood. It is essential for surgeries, cancer treatment, chronic illness and traumatic injuries. Here are some facts about the American Red Cross: The Red Cross was founded in 1881 by Clara Barton. It is a humanitarian entity that provides approximately 45% of the nation's blood supply. The organization is celebrated in March of each year. President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued a proclamation declaring it in 1943. The organization supports more than 1,000 organizations across the U.S. They aim to have one person per American household trained in CPR and first aid. On behalf of Healthmark, I would like to thank the American Red Cross for all their efforts and for coming out to our headquarters last week. Also, thank you to all of the volunteers that participated in our blood drive.
